  • What if I need a prescription refill?
It is important that you take your medication as indicated by the doctor, as well as participate in your care by attending appointments with your doctor. If you need to miss your appointment, your medication may run out before you are able to get to come to your rescheduled appointment. It is critical that you attend your rescheduled appointment. Your doctor may be able to extend your prescription until your appointment, this is on a case-by-case basis. If you are on a drug that needs to be filled monthly, please call your pharmacy to make sure you do not have medications waiting for you. If you do not have medications at the pharmacy, please contact us at least 5 days before your prescription runs out. Please be aware that if you call us for a prescription refill, it could take up to 5 days to get this done.
  • Prior authorization for medication – How does it work?
When your doctor prescribes a medication to you, your insurance company may want justification from your doctor on why you need this medication. We are unable to tell which insurance company will want a prior authorization on which medication, which is why we rely on the pharmacies to communicate with us about your prescription. The process: You take your prescription to your pharmacy and they contact your insurance company. The insurance company may require a “Prior Authorization” before they will cover the medication. Our office receives these requests via facsimile from your pharmacy. This communication from the pharmacy includes the insurance company name/phone number and any other pertinent information to get the process started. Staff at Tucker Psychiatric Clinic then contact your insurance company and discuss your medication history. Your insurance company may then take some time to decide if they will cover the prescribed medication or want you to try something else. This decision is completely with the insurance company and not with Tucker Psychiatric Clinic.
