Dr. James A. Shield, M.D.
Dr. Shield graduated from Princeton University and from the University of Virginia School of Medicine
with an M.D. Degree, serving an internship at Pennsylvania Hospital and a residency at the Institute
of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. After 2 years at the National Institute of Mental Health
in Washington D.C., he joined Tucker Psychiatric Clinic, Inc. in Richmond in 1970,
a practice founded in 1912.
Dr. Shield is Board Certified and specializes in general psychiatry. He is past president of the
Psychiatric Society of Virginia and past president of the Medical Society of Virginia. He is a
Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the VCU School of Medicine.
The care of patients and the improvement of care for all patients is Dr. Shield's professional goal.
